Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay approach the South East Ridge at 27,300 feetEdmund Hillary (in front) and Tenzing Norgay (right) in the couloir leading from the South Col onto the South East Ridge. By the end of the days climb they had set the highest camp that had ever been established on Mount Everest. In 1952 Alfred Gregory was with Shiptons Cho Oyu expedition, and in 1953 he went to 27,900 feet in support of Hillary and Tenzing. On that expedition he was also in charge of stills photography.
